Florida got smoked 5-1 in Ottawa last night, and now the Cats have to turn around and play in Pittsburgh. The Pens have lost four straight, all on a western road trip, but they’re home now, and this is the spot. Sid and Geno at home. Let’s go Pens.
The Matchup
- Florida is on a back-to-back. The Panthers lost 5-1 in Ottawa on Wednesday. They’re already without Aleksander Barkov, Brad Marchand and Jacob Markstrom.
- Pittsburgh is back home. The Penguins are 3-6-1 and lost four straight in Chicago, Colorado, Vegas and Utah. Their last home game was a 2-1 shootout win over Dallas.
- The vets are scoring. Evgeni Malkin has 5 goals, and Sidney Crosby has scored in two of his last four. Bryan Rust is out six weeks, and Samuel Girard is out.
- Brady is still hot. Brady Tkachuk scored in his homecoming and has 7 goals in 10 games for Florida.
- Puck drop. 7:00 PM ET at PPG Paints Arena.
The Goalies
Arturs Silovs is confirmed for Pittsburgh. He’s at 86.6% through six, which is the biggest reason this is only a lean.
Florida hasn’t named its goalie. Akira Schmid played Wednesday, so Cooper Black, just called up, could get the start.
The Number
Take the margin out and the market makes Pittsburgh a slight favorite, about 52%. A tired team on the road with a call-up likely in net should cost more than that.
The honest case against: Pittsburgh has lost four straight, Silovs has been shaky, and Florida’s top line can score on anybody. It’s a Game Pick, a lean, and like every pick we post, it lands on the receipts page win or lose.
Bottom Line
Take the Penguins on the moneyline at . Lean. Florida’s tired and short-handed. Pens at home.
Lines as posted Thursday at 12:29 PM ET. Silovs is confirmed; Florida’s goalie isn’t named yet, so check before puck drop.
Same-Game Parlay
One read in two legs. If Pittsburgh wins at home, Crosby is probably in the middle of it. Every leg needs the same night, so this is one position, not two bets.
