Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve with a calf injury, and he’s expected to miss months. Philly has lost three straight with him. Now Tanner McKee starts on Monday night. When a starting quarterback is out and the spread is under ten, we go with the board, and the board says Dallas. How ’bout them Cowboys.
The Matchup
- Philly loses its quarterback. Hurts (calf) is on injured reserve. Tanner McKee threw for 215 yards and a touchdown in his one game this season.
- The Eagles were already sliding. Philadelphia is 2-4 and has lost three straight: 24-20 to the Rams, 19-17 in Jacksonville and 25-14 to Carolina.
- Dallas has the passing game. Dak Prescott has 1,639 yards and 10 touchdowns, and CeeDee Lamb has 577 receiving yards. George Pickens has no injury designation for Monday.
- More Philly injuries. DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle) are out, and so are corner Michael Carter II and edge Nolan Smith Jr. Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is questionable but trending toward playing. Dallas is without KaVontae Turpin and tackle Drew Shelton.
- Kickoff. 8:15 PM ET Monday at Lincoln Financial Field, on ESPN and ABC. Clear and 59 degrees with no wind in the forecast.
The Number
The board has Dallas by four and a half on the road, and that already prices in Hurts. Our house rule for a missing starting quarterback is simple: if the spread is under ten, we don’t fight the market. We take the side the board favors.
The honest case against: Dallas allows the most rushing yards in football, and if Barkley plays, Philly can keep this close on the ground. It’s a Game Pick, a lean, and like every pick we post, it lands on the receipts page win or lose.
In-Game Bets
- If Barkley is active and running well early. That’s Philly’s best path. Don’t add to the lean.
- If Dallas leads at halftime. Leave it.
- If McKee hits a couple of big throws. Don’t chase. Backup quarterbacks have hot quarters.
Bottom Line
Take the Cowboys minus four and a half at −104 at Fanatics. Lean. Philly’s starter is out, and we go with the board. Cowboys.
Same-Game Parlay
One read in two legs. If Dallas covers against a backup quarterback, Pickens is probably making plays downfield. Check that he’s active before you build it. Every leg needs the same game, so this is one position, not two bets.
- ✓Dallas Cowboys -4.5
- ✕George Pickens over 64.5 receiving yards
✕ LOST · 1 of 2 legs hit
Dallas beats the backup and Pickens gets downfield.
