Chicago has lost all four of its road games and has been outscored 44-26 on the season. Detroit isn’t great either, but it’s the better team, it’s at home, and Chicago is expected to go with its backup in goal. I’ll take the Wings.
The Matchup
- Chicago can’t win away from home. The Blackhawks are 4-8-0 and 0-4 on the road, with 26 goals for and 44 against. They did beat the Kings 2-1 on Tuesday. Roman Kantserov leads them with 5 goals.
- Detroit keeps getting points. The Red Wings are 5-4-3 and 5-2-3 in their last ten. They won 4-3 in a shootout in Edmonton on Monday. Alex DeBrincat has 6 goals and 7 assists.
- Rest. Neither team is on a back-to-back.
- Puck drop. 7:30 PM ET at Little Caesars Arena, on ESPN+, Hulu and Disney+.
The Goalies
John Gibson is the expected starter for Detroit. He’s 3-4-1 at .867 in eight starts. Daniil Tarasov is at .940 in three.
Spencer Knight has started 10 of Chicago’s 12 games, at .897, but Arvid Soderblom is expected to get this one. Soderblom is 0-2-0 at .820 in his two starts. Neither goalie is confirmed yet.
The Number
Take the margin out and the market makes Detroit about a 61% favorite. Our ratings, with Soderblom in goal for Chicago, have the Wings closer to 69%. That’s one of our bigger gaps tonight, and it rests on the goalie, so check the starter before puck drop.
The honest case against: Gibson has been shaky, and if Soderblom steals one, a winless road team wins. It’s a Game Pick, a lean, and like every pick we post, it lands on the receipts page win or lose.
Bottom Line
Take the Red Wings on the moneyline at −155 at FanDuel. Lean. The better team, at home, against a team that hasn’t won on the road. LGRW.
Lines as of Thursday morning. Goalies are expected, not confirmed, so check them before puck drop.
