I’m taking Georgia plus one and a half in Tuscaloosa. The Bulldogs are the best team in the country by the current ratings, the numbers make them a small favorite even on the road, and the board has them getting points. That’s a light play, because this number sits right at the edge of where I start asking questions.

4.0
Points between our number and the board, and they sit on Georgia

The Matchup

  • Georgia has been the best team in the country. The Bulldogs are 5-0 and No. 2, scoring 51 a game and allowing 13. Gunner Stockton is completing 75.5% of his passes with 13 touchdowns and one interception, and Georgia beat Oklahoma 41-13 two weeks ago. The current ratings have the Bulldogs first overall and first on defense.
  • Alabama can match the scoring. The Crimson Tide are 5-0 and No. 6, scoring almost 50 a game. Keelon Russell has 1,414 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions, and four more scores on the ground. The ratings have Alabama’s offense first in the country. The defense is the question: it allows 21 a game, and Florida State put 36 on it.
  • Alabama is banged up in the wrong places. Right tackle Jayvin James missed the Mississippi State game with a foot injury, and Russell was sacked four times without him. Kalen DeBoer is optimistic he plays. Edge rusher Desmond Umeozulu is out, linebacker Justin Hill is likely out, and safety Jorden Edmonds is out long-term. Georgia’s main worry is wide receiver Thomas Blackshear, questionable with a shoulder injury.
  • Alabama owns this series lately. The Tide won 41-34 here in 2024 and 24-21 in Athens last year, and they’ve won ten of the last twelve. Georgia did win the rematch that mattered, 28-7 in the SEC Championship. Kickoff is 7:30 PM ET on ABC. Keep an eye on the weather: a tropical system could reach the Alabama coast Friday night, and the school says there are no plans to change the game.

The Number

The current ratings, updated after Week 5, have Georgia five points better than Alabama on a neutral field. Give Alabama two and a half for playing at home and that’s Georgia by two and a half. The board has Alabama by one and a half. That’s four points on the Bulldogs, a real disagreement, and it lands exactly on our four-point warning line, not over it.

The line has gone the other way. Georgia opened as the favorite and it flipped to Alabama −1.5. Slightly more tickets are on Georgia, but most of the money is on Alabama, and that money is what moved it. When the line runs away from our side, I take the better number but I don’t pound the table.

Why only a light play? Three reasons. The line is moving against us, Alabama has beaten Georgia in this building, and this gap is as big as I let one get before I go looking for what the ratings are missing. I looked. Alabama’s injuries are on defense and the offensive line, and that helps Georgia. Georgia plus one and a half, light play, confidence three.

In-Game Bets

  • If Georgia trails by a touchdown at halftime. Hold. Georgia’s defense has been the best in the country all year, and Alabama has not had to protect a lead against one like it.
  • If Russell is sacked three times in the first half. That’s the right tackle injury showing up. Look at Georgia on the live number.
  • If Georgia leads by ten in the second half. Leave it. You already have the side, and there’s nothing to add.

Bottom Line

Take Georgia plus one and a half at -110 at Fanatics. Light play. The numbers make Georgia a two-and-a-half-point favorite in Tuscaloosa, and the board has the Bulldogs getting a point and a half. Georgia has the better defense, and Alabama is missing pieces up front. The line moving toward Alabama and the Tide’s recent run in this series keep it a light play at confidence three.

Same-Game Parlay

One read in two legs, both posted at the book on the card. If Georgia covers, it’s most likely in a game both offenses get to play. Georgia and Alabama have both gone over the total in all five of their games this season. Both legs need the same night, so this is one position, not two bets. Size it small, and check the weather before you build it.
