Georgia is the third-ranked team in the country, returns more starters than anyone in the SEC, and the books will pay you plus money that it wins eleven. The schedule is the reason. I will take the plus money, small.
Key Storylines
- The continuity is total. Mike Bobo and Glenn Schumann were both extended through 2028 rather than poached, with Bobo’s salary rising to $2.2 million. Georgia lost fewer players than any other SEC team, and of the thirteen who entered the portal only two had ever started. Returning production sits at 68 percent, eighth nationally, and the Bulldogs bring back 14 starters, the most in the conference. No roster in the league has fewer questions.
- Gunner Stockton is back and last season was not a fluke. In his first year as the starter he threw for 24 touchdowns, ran for ten more, and finished seventh in Heisman voting. He then put three touchdown passes on Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. Year two under the same coordinator is the version of this offense people have been waiting for.
- The offensive line is rated the best in the country. Center Drew Bobo leads a group that DawgNation’s preseason rankings put No. 1 nationally, with Dontrell Glover sliding to left guard and Juan Gaston taking right tackle, both in their second year in Athens. Five-star tackle Ekene Ogboko, the headliner of a class that finished sixth, arrives behind them. A second-year quarterback behind the best line in the sport is the Over case in one sentence.
- The defense is elite on paper with one soft spot, and the portal went straight at it. SP+ projects the unit fifth in the country, the same rank as the offense. The one number that stood out last year was the pass rush: just 20 sacks, 107th nationally. Kirby Smart took a small portal class and spent it there: edge Amaris Williams from Auburn is the biggest get, with cornerback Braylon Conley from USC, safety Khalil Barnes from Clemson and Ja’Marley Riddle in the secondary. Freshman safety Tyriq Green has been drawing loud comparisons since he got to campus.
- Peyton Woodring stayed. Brett Thorson did not. The kicker is back for a fourth season as one of the best in the SEC. The punter, who won the Ray Guy Award last year, is gone, and Drew Miller is the expected replacement, with the nation’s top punter in the 2026 class, Wade Register, behind him. On a schedule where clearing this number allows one loss in ten competitive games, a punt that dies at the 40 instead of the 10 is not a small thing.
- The schedule is what the price is about. Nine conference games, four of them away: Arkansas, Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina. Oklahoma visits Athens in September. Georgia does miss Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Tennessee, which is a genuine break, and it still leaves ten games that can be lost. The Florida game moves to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for 2026 and 2027 while Jacksonville’s stadium is rebuilt, about seventy miles from campus, with Georgia the designated home team. Neutral on paper, considerably less so in practice.
Win Total Analysis
The number is 10.5, with the Over at +140 and the Under at -165.
SP+, the ESPN power rating this series leans on, has Georgia fourth overall at 26.4, with the fifth-best offense and the fifth-best defense, and projects 9.9 wins. Adjusted for the rating’s market bias that is about 10.05 against a line of 10.5, a lean of a little under half a win toward the Under. Laying -165 asks you to be right about 62 percent of the time, which is where the projection puts the Under. No edge there. No edge on the Over either. It is a coin flip on a great team, and one side of it pays +140.
When that is the whole picture, our rule is to take the side that pays, at confidence two and a light stake, and to say so plainly. That is what this is. The projection is neutral. The pick is a price.
Now count the games. Tennessee State is an FCS opponent and Western Kentucky is a Conference USA team, so two of the twelve are effectively banked. That leaves ten, and the Over requires Georgia to win nine of them. The Under needs Georgia to lose two of twelve. Nine of ten, with trips to Tuscaloosa and Oxford, Oklahoma at home, Florida in Atlanta and a rivalry finale against Georgia Tech. Georgia did go 11-1 last season, so it is plainly possible. It is also the thing the price already knows.
Compare it to Oregon at the same book, priced on the same 10.5 with the Over at +100. Oregon rates second in SP+ and Georgia rates fourth, a gap of two places, yet the Over on Georgia pays forty cents more. That difference is the nine-game SEC schedule being charged for. It is the correct thing to charge for, and at +140 I am happy to be the one collecting it on the most complete roster in the conference.
Take the Over at +140, small.
SEC Picture
Georgia is the defending conference champion, and has been for two years running. The Bulldogs beat Alabama 28-7 in the SEC Championship Game last December, Kirby Smart’s fourth title in Athens, before losing to Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl.
BetMGM prices Georgia at -235 to reach the playoff and +190 to miss it. Read that alongside the win total and the two markets agree with each other: a team heavily favored to reach a twelve-team field, and roughly a coin flip to win eleven regular-season games. Both of those describe a ten-or-eleven-win team, which is what I think this is.
Best Futures Bets
- Over 10.5 wins (+140): The play, at confidence two, kept light. Real plus money on the AP No. 3 with the best line in the country and 14 starters back. Georgia cleared this exact number a year ago with less experience.
- Under 10.5 wins (-165): The same coin, priced worse. The edge in the arithmetic of the schedule is real: eleven wins needs nine from ten competitive games. I agree with that and still will not lay $165 to win $100 against a roster with no weakness in it.
- To miss the playoff (+190): Pass. A 10-2 Georgia reaches a twelve-team field without much difficulty, so this bet needs something closer to 9-3.
- SEC winner: Watch list. No price is quoted here because I have not confirmed one at a book I can point you to.
Schedule Landmines
Weeks 1-3: Tennessee State and Western Kentucky between the hedges, then the first road trip of the year to Arkansas on September 19. Two of these are formalities. Fayetteville in September is not, and an early stumble there ends the Over before October arrives.
Weeks 4-7: The heart of it. Oklahoma visits on September 26, then Vanderbilt, then Georgia goes to Tuscaloosa on October 10, then Auburn comes to Athens. Four straight conference games including the hardest road trip on the schedule. The Over probably needs all four.
Weeks 8-10: The bye falls on October 24, then Florida in Atlanta on Halloween, then a trip to Ole Miss on November 7. Ole Miss ended Georgia’s season in the Sugar Bowl and gets the rematch at home, against a rebuilt roster. If the Bulldogs arrive there unbeaten in conference, this is where the Over gets decided.
Weeks 11-13: Missouri at home, a trip to South Carolina, then Georgia Tech to close it out. All three are winnable and none of them is free. Columbia in late November has produced upsets before, and the Georgia Tech rivalry has never cared much about anyone’s record.
Bottom Line
Georgia is the fourth-best team in the country by SP+, returns more starters than any SEC rival, kept both coordinators and has the best offensive line in the sport. The projection says ten wins and the market says eleven is a coin flip. No edge either side, so I take the side that pays. Over 10.5 at +140, confidence two, a light play.
