Pick locks at 4:40PM ET
Philadelphia has 27 goals in 14 games, lost in overtime at home on Tuesday night, and now gets the second half of a back-to-back in Washington. The Caps are the pricey side, but the numbers say they should be. I’ll take Washington.
The Matchup
- Philadelphia can’t score. The Flyers are 3-7-4, with 27 goals for and 46 against, and they’ve been outshot 424-326. Matvei Michkov has 8 of the 27.
- Washington is 6-4-0. The Caps have won three of their last four at home, and Alex Tuch leads them with 7 goals.
- Back-to-back. Philadelphia lost 4-3 in overtime to Columbus at home on Tuesday. Washington has been off since Saturday.
- Puck drop. 7:30 PM ET at Capital One Arena, on TNT.
The Goalies
Logan Thompson has started 7 of Washington’s 10 games, at 90.1%, and is the expected starter. Charlie Lindgren (88.6%) started the last one.
Dan Vladar started for Philadelphia on Tuesday and stopped 11 of 15, so Joseph Woll (90.4% in seven) is expected for the second night. Neither is confirmed yet.
The Number
Take the margin out and the market makes Washington about a 67% favorite. Our ratings, with the expected goalies, have the Caps closer to 70%. It’s a small edge on a big price.
The honest case against: Philadelphia has won three of its last five, and at this price you’re risking a lot to win a little. It’s a Game Pick, a lean, and like every pick we post, it lands on the receipts page win or lose.
Bottom Line
Take the Capitals on the moneyline at -235 at Fanatics. Lean. A rested home team against a tired one that can’t score. Rock the Red.
Lines as posted Wednesday. Goalies are expected, not confirmed, so check them before puck drop.
