The Oilers haven’t lost in regulation, and I’m still taking the Mammoth at even money. Utah is 5-2 and has outshot opponents by more than eight a night. Edmonton’s record is great. The shot chart isn’t.
The Matchup
- Utah is pushing play. The Mammoth have outshot opponents 219 to 161 in seven games and scored 27 goals. They beat Toronto 5-4 on Tuesday, and their only real clunker was a 6-1 loss in Boston.
- Edmonton’s wins came against soft spots. The Oilers are 5-0-1, and their last four wins came against Seattle, Anaheim, San Jose and Los Angeles. They’ve been outshot 156 to 150 along the way.
- Puck drop. 9:10 PM ET at Rogers Place.
The Goalies
Karel Vejmelka is confirmed for Utah, at 90.8% through five games.
Devon Levi is confirmed for Edmonton, at 90.3% through four. Pretty even in the crease, which leaves the shot gap doing the talking.
The Number
Take the margin out and the market makes Utah about 48%. At even money, I’ll ride the team that’s been controlling the puck.
The honest case against: it’s Edmonton at home, and those stars don’t need a lot of shots to beat you. It’s a Game Pick, a lean, and like every pick we post, it lands on the receipts page win or lose.
Bottom Line
Take the Mammoth on the moneyline at . Lean. Utah has been the better hockey team for two weeks, and the price says coin flip. Mammoth.
Lines as posted Thursday at 5:00 PM ET. Goalies per the teams’ morning reports; confirm them before puck drop.
