I’ll lay two and a half with the Jets at home. Our numbers make New York better than a four-point favorite, and almost everyone is betting Cleveland. It’s a lean.
The Number
Our preview had Cleveland at 5.5 wins and the Jets at 7. One point of spread for every win, plus three for the home team, makes this the Jets by 4.5. The board has the Jets by two and a half. That’s 2 points of daylight on the Jets. We cut that gap in half, because a preseason number knows less in October than it thinks it does, which leaves 1 point. That’s a small edge, so it’s a lean.
The line has moved from one and a half to two and a half this week, even with more than eight in ten bets on Cleveland. Two and a half is the number at our books now.
The Matchup
The Jets are 1-3 and are without running back Breece Hall, but Geno Smith has thrown for at least 247 yards in two of his last three games, and Cleveland allows 254 passing yards a game. The Browns are 3-1, but they have ruled out seven players, including quarterback Dillon Gabriel and defensive tackles Mason Graham, Mike Hall and Kalia Davis. Quinshon Judkins has caught at least five passes in two of his last three, so expect Cleveland to lean on him.
Bottom Line
Take the Jets minus two and a half at . Lean. Our numbers make the Jets a four-and-a-half-point favorite, and the board has them by two and a half. The line moved toward the Jets even with the crowd on Cleveland, and it’s a lean.
Same-Game Parlay
Three legs, one read: the Jets win because Smith throws on a Cleveland defense that gives up yards, while the Browns check it down to Judkins. Every leg needs the same game, so this is one position, not three bets.
The angleGeno Smith throws for yards and the Jets cover a short number.
