Sixty-eight college football games on our board for Saturday and most of them are not worth your money. Half the slate is a Power Four team hosting an FCS opponent and laying thirty. What is left is a genuinely good betting card: a primetime conference opener in Death Valley, a neutral-site SEC opener, two seven-and-a-half-point games in the same afternoon window and a coin flip on the West Coast at half past ten. Below are the four we wrote in full, then a one-line call on every other game where enough of our books post a number to make it shoppable.
Featured Picks
Clemson at LSU, 7:30 PM ET. Two top-twenty defenses and a total that opened too high. SP+ rates LSU’s defense third in the country and Clemson’s eighteenth, and Clemson’s offense sits 46th with a quarterback situation it has not settled. The number has already come down a point since we wrote it up, which is the market agreeing rather than us being early. Read the full breakdown →
Baylor at Auburn, 3:30 PM ET. Read the venue first: this is Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a neutral field, and Auburn is laying seven and a half with a first-year head coach. Baylor’s games averaged nearly sixty-four points last season between what the Bears scored and what they allowed. I want the points and the Over. Read the full breakdown →
Tulane at Duke, 3:30 PM ET. We had this one backwards and we are correcting it before kickoff. Both teams replaced their quarterback this offseason and only Tulane also replaced its head coach, and the price charges Duke for its losses without charging Tulane for its own. SP+ makes it Duke by better than twelve, College Football News projects Duke 34 to 24, and both defenses grade in the eighties. Lay the seven and a half and take the Over. Read the full breakdown →
UCLA at California, 10:30 PM ET. Two brand new coaching staffs, a two-and-a-half-point spread and the last kickoff of the night. Nobody should be laying road chalk in that. Home team, points, and a plus-money moneyline that is the same opinion at a better price. Read the full breakdown →
Quick Picks
Updated Saturday lunchtime: the Tulane and Duke call above has been corrected, the noon games are marked closed, and five numbers that moved since publication have been reconciled against the board.
One line each. These are shorter reads taken off the board rather than full breakdowns, and the reasoning is the market structure in front of you rather than a week of tape. Every game here has at least three of our partner books posting a spread, which is the bar for calling something shoppable.
- Coastal Carolina at West Virginia, 12:00. Kicked off, no longer bettable. Under 55.5. Only two books post this total and the number is high for a noon kickoff in Morgantown with a three-touchdown gap in class.
- Oregon State at Houston, 12:00. Kicked off, no longer bettable. Oregon State +20.5. Four books on the spread and the price on the dog has firmed since it opened, which is money arriving on the points rather than the favorite.
- Liberty at James Madison, 12:00. Kicked off, no longer bettable. Under 50.5. The tightest of the noon games at six and a half, and four books agree on a total that only needs one slow half to land.
- Lafayette at UConn, 12:00. Kicked off, no longer bettable. UConn -19.5. An FCS visitor and the only side of this game any real money is on. Take it and do not overthink it.
- Miami (OH) at Pittsburgh, 12:00. Kicked off, no longer bettable. Miami (OH) +16.5. A MAC program that travels well against a Pitt team the market has not decided about; both sides of the spread are priced identically, which is a market with no lean at all.
- Ohio at Nebraska, 12:00. Kicked off, no longer bettable. Under 46.5. The lowest total in the noon window and Nebraska is laying 23.5, which is the profile of a game that is over early and slows down.
- Rhode Island at Temple, 2:00. Temple -14.5. Temple is the shortest Power Five-adjacent favorite against an FCS side on the board and still gets a two-touchdown cushion.
- Boise State at Oregon, 3:30. Under 51.5. Oregon is laying 24.5 and four books post the total, the deepest market in the window. Games decided by the third quarter tend to end with backups in and the pace slowing down.
- Boston College at Cincinnati, 3:30. Boston College +7. Two transfer quarterbacks making first starts, and the number has come in half a point from where we posted it, so the cushion is smaller than the write-up assumed.
- Oklahoma State at Tulsa, 3:45. Over 57.5. The total has come down two points since we posted it, which means the Over is available at a better number than the one we wrote up, in a game where the favourite is laying 13.5 and neither defense is the reason to watch.
- Wyoming at Colorado State, 6:00. Under 46.5. Three points between them and one of the lowest totals on the card. Border War games are rock fights and this one is priced like one.
- Eastern Kentucky at Jacksonville State, 7:00. Jacksonville State -22.5. The home side is the only priced opinion here and the number has moved two points further in its favour since we posted, so the price is worse than the one we wrote up.
- Florida International at South Florida, 7:00. South Florida -14.5. Four books, both sides priced level, and the better program is at home laying two touchdowns in a conference it has outgrown.
- Houston Baptist at Rice, 7:00. Under 47.5. An FCS visitor and the second-lowest total on the night. Rice will lead by three scores and stop throwing.
- Sam Houston at Troy, 7:00. Troy -16.5. Four books on the spread and the price has moved toward the home favorite since it opened.
- Southeastern Louisiana at South Alabama, 7:00. South Alabama -13.5. One of the shorter numbers an FBS side is laying against an FCS opponent today, and it has moved a point toward the favourite since we posted it.
- Central Michigan at New Mexico, 10:00. Under 47.5. Four books, a 10.5-point spread and one of the lowest totals on the board. Late Mountain West football is not a scoring environment.
- UNLV at Hawaii, 10:00. UNLV -3. The road favorite is the better team and three points in Honolulu is the travel discount, not a real opinion about football.
- Western Kentucky at Nevada, 10:30. Western Kentucky -1.5. A near pick’em where the moneyline on both sides sits inside twenty cents. Take the better roster and the shorter number.
Bottom Line
Four games got the full treatment because four games earned it. The rest of the card is one line each and priced accordingly, and there are thirty-odd games on Saturday I would not put a dollar on in either direction. The featured picks are the ones we stake and the ones that go on the receipts page under our own name. Everything else here is a read, not a position.
