Pick locks at 5:15PM ET
Carolina just got smoked 43-13 at home, and now it has to go to Lambeau on a short week. That’s exactly why the hook is sitting there. Green Bay can’t run the ball, and these two have played like the same team all season. Give me the Panthers and the points.
The Matchup
- Carolina is all over the place. The Panthers are 3-3. They lost 59-37 to Chicago in Week 1, won 34-3 in Atlanta, and got blown out 43-13 by Tampa Bay on Sunday. Bryce Young went 14 of 27 for 163 yards and two interceptions in that one, after five straight games of 280 yards or more.
- Green Bay can’t run. The Packers are 4-3 and average 59.9 rushing yards a game. Josh Jacobs had 11 carries for 36 yards in Sunday’s 20-17 loss at Detroit, his only game this season. Jordan Love threw for 274 in that one.
- Both lines are banged up. Carolina put right tackle Taylor Moton on injured reserve Monday, and guards Damien Lewis and Torricelli Simpkins III are out. Green Bay is without guard Sean Rhyan (high ankle), tackle Travis Glover (knee) and center Jacob Monk (injured reserve).
- The rest of the report. Carolina linebacker Jaelan Phillips and corner Akayleb Evans are out. Green Bay linebacker Zaire Franklin is out, and receiver Matthew Golden (shoulder, foot), defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt (ankle) and edge Brenton Cox Jr. are questionable. Carolina defensive tackle Bobby Brown III is questionable too.
- Turnovers. Green Bay is plus 5 with 13 takeaways. Carolina is minus 1.
- Weather and kickoff. Clear, 53 degrees, wind 7 mph at kickoff (NWS hourly, checked Thursday morning). 8:15 PM ET Thursday at Lambeau Field, on Prime Video.
The Number
Take the margin out and the market makes Green Bay about a 63% favorite. Season point differential has these two nearly even: Carolina is minus 7, Green Bay is minus 1. Add home field and we get the Packers by about two and a half. The line is three and a half, and that half point past a field goal is the whole bet.
The honest case against: Carolina is missing three starters on the offensive line, Green Bay has 16 sacks, and Young just played his worst game of the year. If the Packers live in the backfield, the hook won’t matter. It’s a Game Pick, a lean, and like every pick we post, it lands on the receipts page win or lose.
In-Game Bets
- If Young is getting sacked early. Leave it. That’s the risk we priced in, not a reason to bail.
- If Green Bay leads by ten at halftime. Don’t chase the Packers live. Their run game can’t salt a lead away.
- If Golden is out. That helps the Panthers’ thin secondary. Don’t add to the lean, just like the position more.
Bottom Line
Take the Panthers plus three and a half at -108 at FanDuel. Lean. These teams are closer than the line says, and the Packers don’t have a run game to pull away with. Keep pounding.
Same-Game Parlay
Two legs, one read. If Carolina covers, it’s most likely because Green Bay can’t run and the game stays tight. Both legs need the same night, so this is one position, not two bets.
