I’ll take Philadelphia plus seven and a half in London. Our numbers make this close to a field goal game, and the board is asking for more than a touchdown. The Eagles are missing two of their best players, so it’s a lean.
The Number
Our preview had Philadelphia at 10 wins and Jacksonville at 11.8. One point of spread for every win, and no home field in London, makes this Jacksonville by 1.8. The board has Jacksonville by seven and a half. That’s 5.7 points of daylight on the Eagles. We cut that gap in half, because a preseason number knows less in October than it thinks it does, which leaves 2.8 points. That’s a real disagreement, but every NFL side on this week’s board is a lean.
The line opened at Jacksonville by three and has jumped to seven and a half since Barkley and Smith were ruled out, with about six in ten bets on Jacksonville. The market has priced the injuries, and then some.
The Matchup
The Eagles are without Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith, both out with hamstring injuries, and Hollywood Brown and center Drew Kendall are also out. That’s a lot of offense gone. But the Jaguars give up 280 passing yards a game, 31st in the league, and Trevor Lawrence has stayed under 226 passing yards in two of his last three games. Jacksonville is 3-1, but laying more than a touchdown on a neutral field asks a lot of an offense that hasn’t been putting up big passing numbers.
