Los Angeles may have the best roster in football. We are fading their win total anyway, and those two things do not conflict. The number is half a win too high.

+10
The Rams' 2025 turnover margin. Every scenario where it regresses misses the Over

Key Storylines

  • The talent is genuinely historic. Los Angeles is the first team to open a season with the reigning MVP at quarterback and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Matthew Stafford won the 2025 MVP after leading the league in passing yards with 4,707 and touchdowns with 46. Then the Rams went out and got Myles Garrett. This is not a team you fade because it is bad.
  • The Garrett trade was expensive and probably correct. Los Angeles sent edge rusher Jared Verse plus a 2027 first, a 2028 second and a 2029 third to Cleveland for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. We covered the other half of that deal in the Browns preview, where Verse and three years of premium picks are the entire rebuild. Los Angeles also brought in cornerback Trent McDuffie from Kansas City, the same trade our Chiefs preview describes from the selling side, along with corner Jaylen Watson and linebacker Grant Stuard.
  • The protection is the best in the league and nobody talks about it. The Rams allowed just 23 sacks in 2025, fewer than any team in football, per FOX Sports. Stafford threw for 4,707 yards because he was never on the ground. That line returns, and it is the quietest reason this offense works.
  • They drafted their next quarterback at 13. Los Angeles used the 13th overall pick on quarterback Ty Simpson. You do not spend a first-round pick on a passer while the reigning MVP is on your roster unless you are planning a succession. That does not affect 2026 directly. It tells you how the building is thinking about the runway.
  • The coordinator left for a division rival. Mike LaFleur took the Arizona head coaching job, which we cover from the other side in the Cardinals preview. Sean McVay has survived coordinator departures before and calls the offense himself, so this is more of a footnote than a real problem. It is still a change on a team being asked to win twelve.

Win Total Analysis

The number is 11.5, with the Over at -140 and the Under at +115 as of August 3. We are on the Under. The arithmetic is the whole argument.

Los Angeles scored 518 points, the most in the NFL, and allowed 346. That plus-172 differential is worth about 12.3 wins by Pythagorean expectation. On its own that clears 11.5 and this would be an Over.

Two things stop it. The forward model disagrees. PFF projects the Rams at 11.1 wins, which is below the line rather than above it, and unlike Pythagorean wins that figure already prices in the schedule and the offseason.

The second is turnover regression, and it is decisive. The Rams finished plus ten in turnover margin, 25 takeaways against 15 giveaways, per FOX Sports. Turnover margin is the stat most likely to snap back year over year. Run the subtraction and watch what happens: one win off 12.3 is 11.3. Two wins off is 10.3. Neither clears 11.5. There is no regression assumption, however gentle, under which the Over survives.

That sentence is the thesis. Every regression scenario misses the Over.

And the price is the rest of it. You are not laying juice to fade the most talented roster in football, which is a bad way to spend money. You are being paid +115 on a number where the forward model and the turnover regression both land below the line. Roughly half a win too high. The market priced the talent correctly and went one tick further than the evidence supports.

Take the plus money now rather than waiting, because a good September on a glamour roster moves this number up, not down. Do not add a division fade or a playoff fade: the Rams are very likely a playoff team and this bet does not require otherwise. It requires them to win eleven instead of twelve. If Garrett looks like a two-win difference by the bye, this is a position to cut rather than defend.

Be honest about the hole in this. That 12.3 was earned with Jared Verse and without Myles Garrett. The 2026 defense should be better than the one that produced it, which means the true talent level may sit above 12.3 rather than below. If Garrett adds a win and the turnover regression takes one away, the two cancel and you are back at 12.3 against 11.5, which still misses. But if Garrett is worth two wins over Verse, the Over is live and we are wrong.

That is the entire bear case, and it is real. It is also why this is a five and a standard play, not a conviction play.

Division Odds

The NFC West is the hardest division in football and that helps the Under. Seattle won the Super Bowl and returns the league’s best defense. San Francisco won twelve games. Arizona is the only soft touch, and even there the Cardinals were better than 3-14 by scoring margin. Six division games against that field is not where a twelve-win season gets built. The Rams also lost the NFC Championship Game in Seattle last January, so the path runs through a building where they have already come up short.

Best Futures Bets

  • Under 11.5 wins (+115): The lead play. Plus money on a number that no forward projection supports and no turnover scenario reaches.
  • Myles Garrett sack props (when posted): He arrives as the reigning Defensive Player of the Year on a team that already protects the passer better than anyone, which means more games with leads and more obvious passing downs for the opposition. The market may price him off Cleveland’s context rather than Los Angeles’s.

Weeks 10-14Packers, Chiefs, @ 49ers
Weeks 15-18Cowboys, @ Seahawks, @ Buccaneers
  • Weeks 1-4, @ 49ers in Melbourne and @ Eagles: The season opens in Melbourne, the first regular-season NFL game ever played in Australia (Sep 10, Netflix). San Francisco won twelve games last year with a plus-66 differential, so Week 1 feels more like a playoff matchup than an opener, and both teams cross the Pacific to play it. The Giants in Week 2 are a breather, but Weeks 3 and 4 are back-to-back road games at Denver and Philadelphia. The Broncos went 14-3. This is the kind of month that turns an 11-win team into a 9-win team before the leaves change.
  • Weeks 5-9, Bills and Chargers: The schedule takes a breath. Arizona at home in Week 6 and a trip to the Raiders in Week 7 are two of the softest dates on the calendar, both opponents priced below 6 wins. Buffalo visits in Week 5, the one heavyweight in this stretch. The Chargers at home in Week 8 are a 10.5-win team, so that is not free either. A road trip to Washington in Week 9 closes the quarter. Even so, three of five are winnable.
  • Weeks 10-14, Packers and Chiefs: The trip to Arizona in Week 10 is the last easy one for a while. After the bye, the Rams host Green Bay in Week 12 and Kansas City in Week 13. The Packers carry a 10.5-win total. The Chiefs went 6-11 last year but the market expects a rebound. Then Week 14 sends the Rams to San Francisco for the second meeting with the 49ers. Three hard games in three weeks right after the bye is where the Under earns its keep.
  • Weeks 15-18, Seahawks twice: This is the quarter that makes the Under. The Cowboys visit in Week 15, then it is back-to-back road games at Seattle in Week 16 and Tampa Bay in Week 17. The Seahawks won the Super Bowl and led the league in both points and yards allowed. The Rams lost to them in the NFC Championship Game. The season finale is another date with Seattle, this time at home in Week 18. Two games against the best team in football in December is the schedule making our case for us.

Bottom Line

The best roster in football is priced half a win too high. Every forward projection lands under the number, every turnover scenario misses the Over, and you get plus money to say so. Take the Under and respect the roster while you do it.

Why it connects
Three win totals built on last season’s record rather than on what produced it. Los Angeles was plus ten in turnovers and Pittsburgh plus twelve, and neither margin renews. Green Bay was worth 9.3 wins and opens without both starting edge rushers. Three divisions, two conferences, so no leg can help or hurt another, and all three are priced at BetMGM.
