Los Angeles lost its opener by twenty in Australia, put its best pass rusher on injured reserve, and the line has not moved a tenth of a point all week. When the board is that sure, the spread is not where the bet is.
The Matchup
- Myles Garrett is on injured reserve. Sean McVay confirmed on September 14 that Garrett would have knee surgery and miss at least four games. Garrett missed most of training camp with swelling in the knee and played 62 percent of the snaps in Week 1, a game after which he said his performance “was the worst version of myself that I put out there.”
- The Rams opened with a 27-7 loss to San Francisco. That game was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on September 10, which makes this a home opener after an international trip and a long week.
- The Giants beat Dallas 28-20. New York was a home underdog in that game and won it by eight, which is the sort of Week 1 the market usually charges you for by the following Monday. It has not.
- The rest of the Rams report reads well. McVay called safety Kam Curl good with ankle soreness, said linebacker Nate Landman was expected to be ready, and described linebacker Omar Speights as making positive gains with a hip pointer. Tight end Davis Allen was evaluated for a concussion in Week 1 and returned to that game.
- Kickoff is 8:15 PM ET at SoFi Stadium on ESPN and ABC. Receiver Malik Nabers has a knee question but practiced in full, and the Giants expect a full lineup.
The Number
Our season card has Los Angeles at 11.1 projected wins and the Giants at 7.1. At one point per projected win with three for home field, that is the Rams by 7.1. The board asks seven. One tenth of a point is the smallest disagreement on the entire Week 2 board, and it is not a disagreement at all.
The Garrett news should have moved this line and it did not. A four game absence for a player of that rank is worth real points in most games. The number opened at seven on Sunday and it is seven today, through the surgery announcement, through the roster move, through a short week of practice reports. That tells you the market had already priced a player who missed most of camp and played six snaps in ten.
So there is nothing to sell you on the spread. If you are playing it regardless, the Giants and the points is the side, because the one fact that changed this week took a pass rusher off the home team and the number never adjusted. That is a reason to look, not a reason to bet, and the card reads confidence one with no stake.
In-Game Bets
- If the Rams score on their first two drives. Nothing to do. The parlay needs the Giants inside seven at the end, and a fast start by a home favorite is the most ordinary thing on the schedule.
- If New York is within a field goal at halftime. The seven looks generous in hindsight, and it is a reminder that a no-stake call is a call about the price, not about who wins.
- If Nabers is inactive at kickoff. Stay away from the Giants side entirely. Our only argument for it was that the market had not adjusted, and losing their best receiver adjusts it the other way.
In-Game Parlay
With Myles Garrett out, the Rams lose their best pass rusher and the Giants get the matchup they would have picked. Against Dallas, Malik Nabers caught six passes for 69 yards and Cam Skattebo ran 18 times for 81 yards and a touchdown. Our number and the board agree on the spread; tied to the two players who beat Dallas, it is the bet. One position, a half play, and it is off if Nabers does not play.
The angleNo Garrett means a cleaner pocket and more room to run. The Giants stay inside seven by doing what they did against Dallas.

Bottom Line
No stake on the spread in Giants at Rams. The bet is the in-game parlay above. Our projection is the Rams by 7.1 and the board asks seven, which is as close to perfect agreement as this weekend gets. The lean is the Giants and the points at on the strength of the Garrett absence. On its own, it is a pass.
